Medieval Canterbury Podcast is live
It's time for a trip through medieval Cantgerbury
Have you been to Canterbury Cathedral?
During the summer of 2024 the family packed up and went on a European Vacation!
We spent time in Scotland, England, France, Belgium and ended in Iceland before flying back home. While our travels took us to many great locations some of the best for me were the spots with medieval ties.
Thankfully we picked locations full of medieval history. One of our final days in England was a free day, completely unplanned. We took a family poll and all agreed our day would be spent in Canterbury.
The night before I began looking for places to see, besides the obvious choices, places to eat and anything interesting or fun the family would enjoy. There are lots of options in Canterbury!
The show is stronger with your support and sustaining donations.
The favorite is the $10.66 Norman Invasion donation.
There’s also the $14.85 Battle of Bosworth donation.
And there’s always the do-it-yourself open donation.
We traveled by train, not horseback like the original pilgrims. A relaxing one hour train ride dropped us off at Canterbury West. A short walk later we were in the heart of the medieval city.
We started at the Westgate, saw the medieval City walls, Christchurch Gate, Buttermarket Square and, of course, the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral.
Canterbury is full of medieval history and the Cathedral is a only one of the sights to see. The ruins of St. Augustine’s Abbey, founded in 597, are wonderful to explore.
St. Martin’s church, the oldest church in England, is surround by a cemetery and dates back to the 5th century.
We also discussed a few topics previously covered on the podcast.
Episode 80: John Hawkwood
Episode 73: The Miller’s Tale
Episode 1: St. Thomas Becket
