🧛 Happy Halloween

It’s the spooky season again and time for another look at the darker side of Medieval History.

In past years we examined the first medieval serial killer, an esteemed knight and advisor to Joan of Arc who turned to the occult.

The first witch trial in medieval Ireland, medieval torture techniques and devices, ghost stories ðŸ‘» and medieval monsters.

The show is stronger with your support and sustaining donations.

The favorite is the $10.66 Norman Invasion donation.

There’s also the $14.85 Battle of Bosworth donation.

And there’s always the do-it-yourself open donation.

This year we explore the Codex Gigas. A book written by a monk, condemned to death for breaking his monastic vows.

The Codex Gigas (giant book) measures over 3 feet long, 2 feet wide, 9 inches thick, over 500 fully illuminated pages and weighing in at 170 pounds!

Legend has it the book was written in one night, by a single monk who sold his soul to the Devil to complete the work. As a gift to the devil the monk put a two foot illustration of the devil in the book.

The unknown origins and the picture of the devil give the book its more common name, The Devil’s Bible.

We also discussed Jan Hus and the Hussite Wars. A topic covered on Episode 56.
